Pepperell Covered Bridge

Pepperells' covered bridges have a historic past.  Early history is reflected in a D.A.R. booklet by Mary L.P.
Shattuc
k.  There is more information and images at the Pepperell Historical Society's web site and
Pepperells' town web site.  The above bridge was called the Waterous Bridge, was built around 1963 and is
being replaced because of steel beam deteriation.  This web site is tracking the replacement project. If you
want a brief email when I make site updates, have any suggestions, questions, or comments, email me at
dmpease@charter.net. Photos on this site are the property of the web master and photographer, David M Pease.

The bridge was built by Unadilla Laminated Products.  Their web site is at http://www.unalam.com
which has some great pages of the Pepperell covered bridge project.

This document has detail photos that show how the main truss components are related.

Much of the hardware for the bridge was supplied by Portland Bolt & Manufacturing Company.
They have included our covered bridge on their website at http://www.portlandbolt.com/projectresume/coveredbridgeprojects.html

The Pepperell Memory Walk
At the Prudence Wright Overlook Nashua River Access Area

As Pepperell's third, historic covered bridge nears completion, plans are being made for the Prudence Wright Overlook Nashua River Access Area on land owned by the Department of Fisheries & Wildlife, alongside the new bridge.  The Overlook will be a scenic, historic area and include a commemorative brick walkway called the Pepperell Memory Walk, bridge artifacts, historical monuments honoring Prudence Wright and the past covered bridges, natural plants and landscaping.  There'll be a Grand Opening ceremony in town dedicating the bridge, events, games and a celebration provided for all.

The Pepperell Memory Walk program is open to the public and anyone can purchase a brick personalized with a name or message to mark their place in time on the walkway. Honor loved ones, family members, groups and businesses on a brick walk that leads to the historical monuments within the Overlook. Proceeds will benefit the Covered Bridge site and provide funds to help maintain the area in the future.

The completion of the new Covered Bridge is a special occasion to remember in history. Everyone is invited to contribute a memorable, message permanently into the walkway near the bridge. Bricks can be purchased for a donation of $50 for an 8 x 4 inch brick or $75 for an 8 x 8 inch brick. To order your engraved brick, the order forms and information is available at: the Town Clerk's office, www.pepperellcoveredbridge.org, www.pepperellinfo.net/coveredbridge, www.shoppepperell.com, the Lawrence Library or call 978 433-3232 for more information.
